windows to the soul

Rules are made to be broken, right? I guess it isn’t really a rule, but you seldom see pictures of people with their eyes closed where it wasn’t an accident. Maybe mine is an accident too, except I have at least ten more where her eyes aren’t closed and I still like this one best. So serendipitous, but my choice. I don’t even know for sure why I like it.

Sisters

I’ve been working on a project to document half of my family. This image is a combination of Jayrah and her sisters; I like all of the images, but I seem to be in the minority.

Well, the piece is finished and has been auctioned off to our good friend Jaxxie. Here is a pic of the finished piece, the photo does not do justice to the reflective metallic mailbox letters, but otherwise it is a decent representation (Gorjus and Jayrah were rushing me to take the picture).

Work in Progress

So as not to deny our one regular reader, I have decided to post about some unfinished work.

These pieces were created by Gorjus, Jayrah and myself. I did the boring technical stuff, while Jayrah and Gorjus focused on the creative aspects, with all guitar chord info coming from Gorjus. If you know anything about playing guitar you probably have already noticed that the hand positioning is not technically correct. However, if you know way too much about old blues players you may have noticed that one of the hand positions is the same as the hand position Robert Johnson had when he was photographed (sadly his portrait was only made twice). The other hand positions are also intended to be derivative of self-taught blues chords.

One of these pieces will be enlarged considerably, printed on water color paper, and then given to Gorjus to embellish. If you are familiar with Gorjus’s non-polaroid work you probably already have a good idea in mind of what to expect, and if not think stamps, stickers, ink, attaching found objects, etc. I am eagerly anticipating the final outcome.

If I can get myself together in time, I may have a few photos on display at the Capri tonight. And Jayrah will have some glass pieces there too! Here is a qoute from the fearless organizer:

Tomorrow at the art mix there will be a variety of artists at the CAPRI showing their wares and art. From jewelry to photography! You also get to view the Capri and see what a valuable piece of fondren history it is and how a renovation would be a worthwhile cause to support. Donation jar there for that as well!
Hope to see you all there!
From 5pm to 8pm…all local business are open..so grab your scarves and mittens and come on out!
thx!!!
